3:03 pm - I split my Fine Art group

noblwish

Due to requests on both sides of the argument, I have split my Yahoo group, HoustonFineArtFans, into a discussion group (the original one) and an Announcement-Only group, HFAF-Announce.

As of next week, I will cease to forward any event announcements or newsletters to the original group -- it will exist for art-related chit-chat and IRL meeting planning only (although members are still welcome to forward events and news to that group, if they want -- I'll be happy to forward them on to the other group, as well).  The new group is where I will be forwarding everything to from then on.  Messages, Links and the Calendar will be accessible to the public (although, I discovered, you must have a Yahoo ID to view the calendar, regardless of your membership status).  Files, Photos, Databases and other features will be member-only, so there is SOME benefit to membership (membership requests will not be moderated).  Posting is moderator-only, although I am willing to give semi-mod posting privileges to anyone who plans to forward events weekly or monthly.  Anyone can send an announcement they want posted on the group to me at hfafgroup@yahoo.com.

While I've tried to keep all discussion group members within the local Houston area, I am not concerned with the location of subscribers to the announcement group.  If you are curious about what goes on in the Houston, Texas Art Scene, by all means then, come join up!

Lowell Northrop
2001- Hollywood, CA
In the year 2001, there were 236 confirmed Bigfoot sightings in the United States.Yet in the same year, there were only 12 confirmed Axl Rose sightings. For the past ten years, one of rock¹s most recognizable figures has been in hiding, and only a handful of people have ever seen him in public.
What does Axl Rose look like now?
How does he dress?
Where does he eat?
Is he more afraid of us than we are of him?

This short film is a collection of actual eyewitness accounts from people who have spotted this reclusive rockstar in recent years.

2:48 am - Shooting Ideas

z0ltan
So I normally do action shorts. Lots of fighting or shooting and not too much storyline. My actors weren't the best of actors at the time so I just stayed with what we could do....... so I tried to think of something a little different and come up with a short about hit-men. You know...... work for a mob and kill people. Well that wasn't really all that different from what we were doing before..... especially because I'd probably have us killing other bad guys(drug dealers) anyway.

But what if it was a comedic hit man movie? Like some of the hit-men are REAL stupid...... everything goes wrong..... and the people they have to kill are ridiculous.... How many times has that been done before? what do you guys think? Any ideas?

Hiya!

I am a film geek. Specifically, I enjoy indie films. I was glad to see Secretary was the first film out of the gate. I was also sad, because I missed it.

Okay, let me back up. I'm being a bit presumptuous.

I'm Jasmine. My boyfriend, D, and I are really interested in watching some flicks with a few locals who can appreciate an odd film or two.

The thing is I'm not so sure this happily-little-geek-group is open to newcomers.

Sooooo, here I am with questions a plenty. (And yes, I haven't read the mailing list yet which probably answers all my queries anyway. *smile*)

1) Are you guys open to two new people?
2) Do you usually watch indie/unusual/not mainstream necessarily?
3) How many people are in the group?
4) How long do you guys plan to get keep the group up (is this only a summer thing)?
5) Do you normally meet on Weds only?
6) Can I be any more verbose in an introductory post?

Thanks in advance!
Jasmine

1:05 pm - "You're not shy. You're a lawyer. "

alyska
join me this evening at my humble abode at 7pm for the inagural evening of geeks on film. tonight's screening features Steven Shainberg's Secretary (2002) starring james spader and maggie gyllenhaal.

"A young woman, recently released from a mental hospital, gets a job as a secretary to a demanding lawyer, where their employer-employee relationship turns into a sexual, sadomasochistic one."

if you have any suggestions for future screenings, please submit them to the mailing list (geeksonfilm@katana.org) or the the community.

first post!

you can join the mailing list here for all your informational updates; i thought the LJ forum would work best for discussion of the various film, and the list moreso for announcements. let me know hat you think, and i'll adjust accordingly.

first film will be screened wednesday, june 11th at 7pm at alyska's house. current contenders are Gone with the Wind and The Secret of Roan Inish.
